The censorship of artistic expression is one of the defining features of authoritarianism. That and having a leader who gets his statecrafting advice from a supreme deity.

I was listening to the Dead Kennedy's Frankenchrist album this weekend which got me thinking about the topic of censorship. It was DK's penis landscape art work that brought the band to trial and helped spawned the entire parent-led witch hunt of rock musicians during the mid to late 1980's (fuck you Tipper Gore).

Frank Zappa was one of the leading voices for artistic freedom of expression during the this freaky hullabaloo. Rob the Dirty Liberal tipped me off to an entertaining video of Zappa on CNN's Crossfire from 1986. Here is the link...
