damned puritans

let it be known that I despise the Puritans--their cult of fear, their tactics of repression and oppression, their ignorance and brutality, their black and white view of the world, their holier-than-thou methods, their gendered theology of Satan, etc. they represent everything that is wrong with the world.

that said, we must acknowledge their instrumental role in constructing the ideological foundations of America. the fact that American notions of liberty and equality blossomed out of a theocratic New England and a slave plantation Chesapeake is quite paradoxical. if you think about it--tyranny, slavery and racism were all necessary prerequisites for the "freedom" earned in the American Revolution.

we are all walking contradictions and we ain't got no right!
