the war on christmas has begun

UPDATE 11/29/06: The pro-peace lobby is victorious! According to the NY Times: "the fines have been dropped, and the three-member board of the association has resigned, according to an e-mail message sent to residents on Monday."

DENVER -- A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan.

Residents who have children serving in Iraq are offended by a peace sign. Umm, don't all military family members want the safe return of their loved ones from a war zone? Wouldn't "peace" entail the end of war and thus the return of their kin? I guess this family would be happier if Lisa Jensen put a banner on her home that read "I hope your son dies for a lost cause - Merry Fucking Christmas!!!".

But that's besides the point, considering the homeowner's motive for displaying the wreath...
Lisa Jensen said she wasn't thinking of the war when she hung the wreath. She said, "Peace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing." Jensen, a past association president, calculates the fines will cost her about $1,000, and doubts they will be able to make her pay. But she said she's not going to take it down until after Christmas.

Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ, a.k.a. The Prince of Peace. But since we're now outlawing this Satanic five-letter word there will be no more wishes of "peace on Earth" to fellow holiday revelers.

We'll have to erase the word "peace" from numerous secular and religious carols and instead wish everyone a happy consumerism celebration day...because shopping is the reason for the season!

About

I guess you could say this is the "Original Pime". I stopped blogging here regularly in May 2008 (if you don't count the B-Sides diversion - yes it gets confusing) when I joined the Tumblr revolution. Going forward bravely into 2009, this site will serve to house any large image work I produce.

Peace out.
