LOS ANGELES - The nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese said Friday it has agreed to pay $60 million to settle 45 lawsuits alleging sex abuse by priests. The cases were among more than 500 pending against the archdiocese.
"I pray that the settlement of the initial group of cases will help the victims involved to move forward with their lives and to build a brighter future for themselves and their families," Cardinal Roger Mahony said in a news release.
Yes, Cardinal Mahoney. Let's pray that these uppity victims of sexual abuse (abuse which you helped cover up for decades) can just move on with their lives and get over it. Maybe if we say enough prayers everyone will forget how your institution destroyed the lives of hundreds of innocent children. A few decats of the rosary will magically erase the harmful memories caused by years of sexual abuse at the hands of your clergy.
Considering today is World AIDS day, I wonder how many more individuals have contracted HIV thanks to your staunch opposition to condoms and birth control. I guess we'll never know...
