FIFA goes scab picking
BERLIN (AP) - FIFA wants to bring together Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi so they can put the head-butting incident from the World Cup final behind them. "We are definitely working on that," FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Monday.
Blatter said one suggestion was for the two to meet at Robben Island in South Africa, where former President Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid leaders were once imprisoned.
Both Zidane and Materazzi have publicly indicated that this event is behind them. Is there really a need for a reunion? Blatter wants the two to kiss and make up at the Robben Island prison. Tell me how a headbutt in a sporting match final is equivalent to racial apartheid in South Africa. Can't they meet at Euro Disney instead and pose with Mickey Mouse? Jebus, FIFA is becoming almost as irrelevant as the UN.
