pretty hype machine
Christmas comes earlier every year. This October I witnessed Christmas decorations shelved adjacent to the Halloween costumes in my local drugstore. This alarming trend has also spread to presidential election years, which now begin two years prior to election day.
That said, can we please lay off the Obama talk for Jupiter's sake? The media has pre-ordained the junior Senator as the Democratic frontrunner, or at least McHillary's main competitor for the DNC crown. Not only is the discourse premature but it is devoid of substance. The fascination with Obama has centered on his novelty - his centered demeanor and youthful exuberance - which eclipse his actual policy proposals or political views.
At first glance Obama's Monday Night Football ad is a clever way for the Senator to ride both sides of the "are you going to run?" question. He teases the public thus generating more interest in his potential WhiteHouse run. However, in doing the ad he gives legitimacy to this horrible media trend.
What's next? Hillary doing spots for NASCAR?
Then there's the name issue with Barack Hussein (rhymes with Osama) Obama. I can't wait for the media to report on that - oops, they already have...
In other words, Kucinich 2008! :P
