don't put pepper in tanisha's juice
The Bad Girls Club - yes, the name is fairly self-explanatory - is a fascinating example of 21st century American television entertainment. This charming slice of popular culture documents the trials and tribulations of a house full of loud, pouty, attention-seeking female entreprenuers.
Feast your senses on the lastest kerfuffle - a battle between Tanisha and Jennavecia over a torn photograph and pepper-spiked juice. As the tension builds between these two, eventually leading to physical blows, the camera noticeably pans to the droll sullen face of Darlen. The Oxygen network sure knows how to whip up a compelling drama. Perhaps these housemates could use some O2.

what detroit will do to sell fuel inefficient heaps of scrap
While Mittens Romnoid and John "Rambo" McCain battled it out in Michigan there was another spectacle of bullshit on display at the Detroit Auto Show. To unveil the new 2009 Dodge Ram pickup Chrysler paraded a herd of steer through the streets of downtown Detroit. It was so cold the steer decided to get their freak on to stay warm. You know, there's no better sales pitch than using fake cowboys to hawk a gas guzzler to the HeartlandTM.

Apparently, the New England Patriots are no longer just an NFL team. They constitute a national emergency:
In an unprecedented decision, the league announced Wednesday that CBS and NBC -- and not just NFL Network -- will air Saturday night's finale between the Patriots and New York Giants in a three-way simulcast...
On Christmas Eve, Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) delivered a letter to Goodell suggesting the NFL consider using the "flex schedule" -- a progamming device that allows the league to change kickoff times to give NBC the best matchups for its Sunday night broadcasts.
"Electing to air the game on NBC would ensure that every television in America has access to such a historic game," Kerry wrote.
Wow. I am actually shedding real tears. You know, if John Kerry demonstrated this sort of political expediency and bully-pulpit efficiency back in 2004 he would be president now... Read more...

Holy shit, the dude just wrote a hit song!
I was not aware that the periodical "Country Weekly" even existed until I saw one at the checkout counter of my local Rite Aid this evening. I stopped in for AAA batteries and emerged with some genuine blog fodder. I was tempted to purchase a copy so I could read about Toby Keith's holiday gift giving ideas but decided to reserve my cash for some Duvel instead...

usc swag is the must have gift of the season
As if I needed another reason to loathe USC. This piece of garbage was advertised in the coupon section of the Sunday LA Times. The University of Spoiled Children is so widely worshiped in these parts because Los Angeles has no NFL team. What's worse than USC grads? Yuppie douchebags who didn't go to USC but love the goddamn Trojans, decorate their SUVs with red and gold regalia and purchase 24kt gold-plated USC rings.

final straw
For as long as I can remember Yahoo! has been the home page for my web browser. Today this ends. Their continued descent into asinine irrelevancy has finally made me jump ship - and this is the feature that prompted such action:
Do I give a fuck if and why Oprah gained twenty pounds over the summer? Of course I don't. I'm not a medical doctor - or even a licensed dietitian - but if I was going to take a stab at this ever-important national quandary I would humbly offer that the billionaire talk show host consumed more calories than calories burned - hence the expanding waist line.
Now...what should be my new home page?

theorize this
"Industry speculates on the refinement of needs, it speculates however just as much on their crudeness, but on their artificially produced crudeness, whose true enjoyment, therefore, is self-stupefaction – this illusory satisfaction of need this civilisation contained within the crude barbarism of need."
This perfectly describes the consumption industry of 2007 - mass media infotainment, cult of celebrity, advertising, and the like. However, these words were written by Karl Marx in 1844. Yeah, the dude went astray trying to find a "scientific" theory of capital and thinking we could "change" society, but he sure was spot on in his analysis of ruling class ideology...and how did he know I enjoy self-stupefaction on a regular basis!?!

Someone please tell him it's not 1989 anymore. Oh wait, assuming that they are at least 20 years behind the curve culturally, Palestinians might actually like his brand of pop-rock.

what falco said
Today the U.S. Senate progressed valiantly in its quest for further irrelevancy by passing the General Petraeus Advertising Protection Amendment. This utter idiocy makes me long for the day when they were busy debating whether or not English should be made the official language of the nation.

UNION CITY, Ga. -- A McDonald's employee spent a night in jail and is facing criminal charges because a police officer's burger was too salty, so salty that he says it made him sick. Kendra Bull was arrested Friday, charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and freed on $1,000 bail. Bull, 20, said she accidentally spilled salt on hamburger meat and told her supervisor and a co-worker, who "tried to thump the salt off."
...and Union City is called "The Progressive City". That's some progressive law enforcement right there. I wonder what drove the cop to ingest the entire burger if it was so god awful salty?
