coming to los angeles this summer
David Beckham - both the man and the image - is leaving Real Madrid at the end of the La Liga season and will be joining the Los Angeles Galaxy in August. The move has been rumored for almost two years ever since we learned Victoria wanted to relocate the Beckham family to Southern California.
Now she can spend time with pal Katie Holmes and start her own daytime talk show opposite Tyra Banks. With Tom Cruise's help David will be a third-level Scientologist in no time. Purging all those thetans will defintely benefit his game.
Some people are comparing this move to Pele joining the NASL's New York Cosmos in the 1970s. I don't expect the impact to be that monstrous - please don't compare Becks to the Brazilian god. However it will bring more media attention to professional soccer in the US. Will people care? Who knows.
The upside - I now have a great reason to attend some Galaxy games. The downside - every little AYSO tyke will be asking their parents for a Beckham Galaxy jersey.
