leave rachael alone!

Everyday I drift further and further from reality. Now the indie fuckwad hipsters are bashing my favorite cute, loveable 30-minute food guru. Is there no decency? What is this world coming to? Next thing you know they'll be laughing Mr. Swayze into the grave while they decry that communist pedophile Mr. Rogers.

working for the church while your family dies

I have many ideas floating around in my head at the moment. I have yet to successfully reify these into a post or posts. My draft queue continues to expand. I've decided to let it loose this year. So expect more randomness in the near future.

Recent events have led me to reconsider the 1970s. Borrowed Neil Young's Live at Massey Hall 1971 from my uncle. Good stuff. Just Neil and his guitar, playing many of the Harvest tracks before they were released. Children of Men has an awesome soundtrack - you might recall the Lennon track above playing during the final credits. Juno - watched it last night and is highly recommended - also has a sweet soundtrack. It was nice seeing the Bluth boys back together, albeit in a different format. Prominently features the Moldy Peaches, who I saw open for Tenacious D and the Strokes in 2002. The crowd was not too fond of them.

and so it begins...

Obama and Huckabee. We'll see if that trend holds throughout the next few primaries. If so, this would be an interesting match-up. Both are slick politicians, quick on their feet and well-spoken. Huckabee comes off as a nice guy. I wouldn't mind kicking out the jams with him and his band. Obama revives the memory of my former idealistic childhood self - the one who died a long time ago. But if I have to hear the word "change" one more time I am going to self-immolate.

Mi esposa is happy. Obama is her man. She can't understand why I haven't jumped on the O-Train...and she's already given me shit for saying I'll vote third party in November. More on that later.

I hope Cthulhu is on the ballot. I might have to start canvassing in front of my local Trader Joe's.

seasons change and so do i

For the first time this season it truly feels like fall. This morning it's 53°F. Don't laugh - this is "cold" for Southern California. For me it is cool and pleasant. I relish the opportunity to throw on jacket. I have a closet full of them, where they reside lonely and despondent for most of the year. For the dog, it is time to sleep under the covers at the foot of the bed to keep warm, instead of on the floor. My morning coffee ritual takes on a renewed importance during this seasonal change. A warm beverage eases me into the day.

This is where music comes in - like the Boards of Canada track above. Listen and enjoy. Nothing can provide a smoother soundtrack to waking up than their 1998 masterpiece.

fromage ou merde?

French cheese smells like shit. not shit as in *bad* but shit as in real excrement.

See, my dog (whose madre helps out here) relieves herself in the backyard. About ten minutes ago I went outside to pick up her leftovers when my nose caught a pungent smell.

I thought...this smells exactly like the brie I am snacking on with my Stella Artois! How...weird?

Sorry for the public scatology. Now go check out some great music while I flip on some Miles.

all consuming knowledge

I couldn't sleep Saturday night so I stayed up late channel surfing. I caught the end of Silence of the Lambs, which was a horrible thing to watch before trying to sleep. So I looked for something funny or interesting to take my mind off of serial killers and cannibals.

I came across a Henry Rollins spoken word concert. His rant about Walmart was most entertaining. Then he talked about his reading style, in which he underlines and writes notes in the margins of a book. His goal is to conquer the book and extract as much knowledge as possible (it helps to hear him say this in his juicy, intense delivery).

And I thought, that's exactly how I approach reading. I want to conquer the contents of a book. I want to gain as much knowledge as I can, whether I'm trying to pick apart a philosophical work or just get the most out of a fictional story. I underline. I write notes. Take one look at a book I've read and there are underlined paragraphs and scribbles in the margins.

I know it doesn't sound like a fun way to read. But Rollins described it perfectly and I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who reads this way.

Does anyone else read like this? Anybody? Bueller?

a glimpse

So, way back when, I had this plan. I was going to synthesize the best parts of all philosophies and religions and come up with my own way of life. I was a naive punk who assumed that I could meld the teachings of the Tao Te Ching with a postmodern view of the world.

Lately I've gotten off track from these metaphysical matters. I still believe there is something out there, I just don't know how to explain it. Anyone who tells you they have the answer is full of shit. They are deluding themselves. Find it for yourself and you'll be happy.

That said, beware the ides of March.

Oh, and if you meet the Buddha, then kill him.

Kill Caesar too...no hard feelings, Julius, ok?

fever

Stayed home sick today. I'll probably stay home tomorrow too. I think Robot Buddha got me sick.

I've realized something important. The only thing worse than my fever and body aches is daytime television. Do people actually watch this shit?

God help us all.

About

I guess you could say this is the "Original Pime". I stopped blogging here regularly in May 2008 (if you don't count the B-Sides diversion - yes it gets confusing) when I joined the Tumblr revolution. Going forward bravely into 2009, this site will serve to house any large image work I produce.

Peace out.
