seasons change and so do i

For the first time this season it truly feels like fall. This morning it's 53°F. Don't laugh - this is "cold" for Southern California. For me it is cool and pleasant. I relish the opportunity to throw on jacket. I have a closet full of them, where they reside lonely and despondent for most of the year. For the dog, it is time to sleep under the covers at the foot of the bed to keep warm, instead of on the floor. My morning coffee ritual takes on a renewed importance during this seasonal change. A warm beverage eases me into the day.

This is where music comes in - like the Boards of Canada track above. Listen and enjoy. Nothing can provide a smoother soundtrack to waking up than their 1998 masterpiece.

"When alienated from inner vitality we mistake intensity for wakefulness"

-- Christina Feldman, The Buddhist Path to Simplicity

on the futility of grand theory part ii

There is a universal truth out there, somewhere, but we've only managed to grab slivers of it, and we (humanity) all have different names for it. The problem is that each conceptual empire wishes to lay claim to "the truth" by squashing others in their quest for hegemony.

These concepts are diversionary—they seek to remove us from this moment where the real can be found and experienced.

ac patriot noted that such a denial of grand theory demonstrates a lack of cerebral sentience and intellectual curiosity on the part of the individual who chooses not to ask why. Maybe a refusal to ask why Is an affront to science. But some scientists can be just as dogmatic in their approach to the world as religious fundamentalists. Chill out already...

Wisdom is not dependent on knowledge and facts. Neither science nor religious dogma can tackle and express the complexities of the human heart. But music, art, and poetry can...

to sum it up I believe there is a truth, just not the truth.

Get it?

simplicity

"If you want to be happy; be" -- Tolstoy

focus on the moment. do not rehearse past or future conversations in your head. be attentive in the present. The gap between what is and what "should be" creates distress and frustration. so accept the present for what it is.

Peace is the absence of prejudice, resistance and judgment. Peace starts with you.

P.S. pick up a six-pack on the way home

on the futility of grand theory

We always want to know Why. Why? Why do we want to know why? Can’t we be content with a non-answer, accepting things the way they are without explanation? The world goes round, things happens…who cares. There is no inherent meaning in things, events, etc.

Just accept reality for what it is and that is all. Don’t invent complex theories to explain something that is unexplainable. You will only find yourself trapped in a web of conflicting concepts. Tao Te Ching speaks of the danger and futility of using concepts to encapsulate the truth.

Just live and you’ll be fine.

About

I guess you could say this is the "Original Pime". I stopped blogging here regularly in May 2008 (if you don't count the B-Sides diversion - yes it gets confusing) when I joined the Tumblr revolution. Going forward bravely into 2009, this site will serve to house any large image work I produce.

Peace out.
