The Mojito - next to the Caipirinha and the Manhattan - has got to be my favorite drink. Above is an easy to make recipe from the Cocktail Kings (forget that new Bacardi ad campaign). Because we are free-trade loving Americans we don't have access to Cuban rum - so I'd recommend using Flor de Caña from Nicaragua (10 year or better) or Montecristo from Guatemala (12 year or better).
There's something about summer. I'm reminded of the euphoria I experienced each June upon finishing another year of school during my childhood. That feeling of freedom somehow wanders into my mood even today.
It's time to mix up some caipirinhas and enjoy some good music. Sure I have to work Monday - summer vacations are a thing of the past - but who cares. After all, the last thing I'd want is to harsh my mellow. What you ask? Go ask the Culture Ghost about the etymology of that peculiar phrase.
There's no better way to start the weekend than with a caipirinha. I first encountered this sweet and sour drink in Brasil three years ago. I'd put it up there with a Manhattan as my favorite drink. It's quite tasty and easy to make...
Start with one lime, cut in quarters (or eighths if a large lime).
Add 2 tablespoons fine sugar and mash with a wooden pestle.
Now it's time to add your alcohol. Throw in about 2 oz. of cachaça.
Add crushed ice, stir and enjoy!
Oh well, Cairo prefers beer.
THURSDAY, June 29 (HealthDay News) -- Alcohol abuse by minors results in almost 3,200 deaths a year -- four times more than deaths due to all illegal drug use combined, a new study finds. Underage drinking also costs the United States $62 billion each year, the researchers found.
Despite these numbers, policymakers remain focused on the impact and prevention of drug use in minors, rather than alcohol, the study's authors said. The budget for anti-drug use by America's youth is nearly 25 times that of public funds earmarked for the prevention of alcohol use.
