The 'Jambulance' was orange and white with peace signs and graffiti. The youth painted it solid blue, but association says that's not good enough.

doctor octagon, please come to the office...

This hospital should be closed. in 2003 I had surgery at the Irvine Regional and learned what it meant to be tortured. Three years later I had to return for another surgery and had an experience worst then the first! The nursing staff, aids, assistance are in need of training and education. The emergency ward is the worst.

...

I would not recommend anyone to put their health in the hands of this Hospital. I went there a few days ago for a check up and was given the wrong diagnosis. The nurse on duty was rude and the doctor seemed to just want me out. No standard proceedure was applied. I went to the Irvine Walk-In Clinic right by my house and was given the care that I expected. Very nice doctor.

PROS: none
CONS: poor care and staff

Well, those reviews of the local hospital are quite reassuring.

don't bother him. he's dead.

A stalwart Orange County Republican, Karcher worked tirelessly for the party and its candidates, still finding time for active and enthusiastic involvement in local causes, including United Way of Orange County, Orangewood Children's Home, the Roman Catholic Knights of Malta, Right to Life League and South Coast Repertory. The paneled library of his 6,500-square-foot home in Anaheim was adorned with photos of Karcher with the famous, powerful and influential, including Presidents Reagan and Nixon, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, entertainer Bob Hope and Pope John Paul II.

But his support of deeply conservative politicians such as Orange County's John Schmitz, his opposition to abortion and his endorsement of failed legislation that would have permitted schools to fire homosexual teachers earned Karcher the enmity of liberal, gay and women's rights groups.

Carl Karcher, Orange County conservative activist and founder of Carl's Jr., dead at the age of 90.

Pavement, "Gold Soundz ", 1994.

I didn't start the war. Jim Yeager fired the first shot with ELO. Then the Culture Ghost retaliated with some Iggy Pop. I feel it is my duty to cleanse the collective palette with some beautiful Malkmus melodies.

The video for Gold Soundz was filmed in my hood of Irvine, CA. Around -2:03 the guys take over University Plaza (across the street from UC Irvine) - the home of Steelhead Brewery and the one movie theater that shows *good* films in this part of Orange County.

socal is burning

This morning I woke up to a storm of haze and ash. The sun rose in a beautiful orange and red sky but the air smelled like burnt trash. The flames are about 3 miles from my house - it could be the Rapture, so get ready. The Disgruntled Chemist has a good shot of the fire from the other side of Irvine. My place is somewhere right in front of that plume of black smoke.

i heart irvine cops

SANTA ANA – Irvine police have released the name of the officer who wounded an armed bank robbery suspect and inadvertently shot an X-ray technician working near the bank while trying to stop the man from escaping during a heist last October...

Last week, Ramin Pirbazari, 25, of Irvine was sentenced to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon – a potato peeler...

Patients and staff at the Hoag clinic nearby screamed and some ducked under desks as the shots rang out. A bullet ripped through the clinic wall and tore through the back of a 46-year-old technician sitting at her desk. Another bullet ripped through Pirbazari's wrist.

Larry Agran & co. must have hired the casting rejects from Reno 911.

some local news for a change

Lake Forest police vs. The Prophet:

When Orange County sheriff's deputies arrived to the area June 20, Barnes was wearing what appeared to be body armor constructed from pieces of traffic cones, magazines, plastics, and a hubcap strapped to his chest. Barnes threw a bottle at officers as they arrived, said Lt. Don Barnes, chief of police services for Lake Forest.

Officers used Tasers and beanbag shots to subdue "The Prophet," but they had little effect because of the layers of clothing and material strapped to his body, Lt. Barnes said. Officers said Barnes grabbed one deputy's Taser and officers used batons to subdue him and force him to let go of it.

When the popular transient was taken into custody, he was taken to a local hospital with cuts, bruises and what may have been a broken hand, Lt. Barnes said. "The Prophet" was booked for robbery, but not for resisting arrest, Lt. Barnes said.

Huntington Beach city council vs. "The Naked Man":

To prevent Ferreira from parading around outside his home naked, or inside with blinds open, the district attorney's office suggested that Huntington Beach officials ban public nudity. Indecent exposure charges require prosecutors to show that the nudity is sexually charged, and most times, Ferreira was just walking around.

The council passed the ban unanimously at a brisk meeting at which reporters seemed to outnumber speakers, though the city had been bombarded with e-mails from opponents. In fact, what caused the most debate among council members was another city law that bars people from taking off their swimsuits in public.

The Broadcom billionaire dungeon master:

The location, referred to as the Pond or the Ponderosa, "was infamous for its excessive extravagance, its sex rooms and its million-dollar sound equipment," the document alleged.

Nicholas had his private jet pick up prostitutes in New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles "and bring them back to the Pond for his rock star friends," the draft complaint said. "He provided his guests with transportation and cocaine, Ecstasy, methamphetamines, marijuana, mushrooms, and nitrous oxide [laughing gas]" — and even arranged for his private helicopter to land at a nearby hospital helipad, it said.

Free drugs AND transportation. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. I bet they serve some strong drinks at Nick's Cafe...

time to stock up on rat poison

Lately I've been feeling the urge to leave Orange County. Traffic, congestion, insane housing prices, luxury strip malls...not to mention consumer culture's inane obsession with our spoiled rich housewives. It's all really starting to get to me.

But the fact that the Disney empire wishes to expand its Anaheim colony into a Florida-style megalopolis just might drive me away for good. Seriously, there's no escape from this shit. Jean Baudrillard's theories are being validated on a daily basis. They won't stop until the entire world is engulfed in a totalized system of virtual reality.

remember the alamo

I just learned that the Costa Mesa branch of Book Soup is closing. This independent LA-area bookstore is the beacon of light and authenticity in the consumeristic darkness that is South Coast Plaza. It's the only store worth visiting in the mall (besides the international news stand above Sears).

I've spent many lunch hours browsing their unique and eclectic selection. I mean, what other bookstore stocks their porno on the bottom shelf of the magazine rack?! It will be missed, indeed.

I wondered why their shelves were so empty today. Then the clerk confirmed my worst fears - they were going out of business and would be most likely colonized by Gucci or Hermes. The Bluths Segerstroms must have upped the rent to pay for their new concert hall or something...

Well, on the bright side, many of their books are on sale.

does a lifetime supply of sealant wax come with an eternal lifetime of salvation?

A former executive of Irvine-based Meguiar's Inc. filed charges of religious discrimination against the car wax manufacturing corporation:

Atticus O. Firey, 34, of Newport Beach contends Meguiar's Inc. committed religious discrimination when it fired him in July after nearly 10 years with the company. Company president Barry Meguiar repeatedly urged Firey, then the chief operating officer, to attend church, the suit alleges, and told him he was "robbing this company of the blessing of God by not being on your knees and on fire for Jesus."

Borat showed us what it looks like to be on fire for Jesus. I don't know what the "on your knees" part is all about. Let's hope car wax is not involved when employees are getting hot and bothered for the J-man.

The suit, filed Friday in Orange County Superior Court, says Meguiar sat in Firey's office and read to him from the Bible, thrust Christian books on him and demanded he read them and forced managers to attend prayer meetings. When Firey asked about a promised bonus, the suit says, Meguiar said he would not give it to him until Firey joined a Christian church.

Join a church, get a bonus. No violation of anti-discrimination law there! Actually, it sounds a lot like the White House Bible study group. Cabinet members can't achieve influence in the government unless they attend Prophet George's Friday morning revivals.

I guess you could say this is the "Original Pime". I stopped blogging here regularly in May 2008 (if you don't count the B-Sides diversion - yes it gets confusing) when I joined the Tumblr revolution. Going forward bravely into 2009, this site will serve to house any large image work I produce.

Peace out.
